help Frequently Asked Questions

Is the redaction permanent?expand_more

Yes. When you click Redact & Download, solid black rectangles are drawn directly on the PDF page, permanently covering the content underneath. The original text is not recoverable from the output file.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?expand_more

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using PDF.js and pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.

Can I redact specific text across all pages at once?expand_more

Yes — type the text in the Search box and click "Mark all matches". The tool scans every page and marks all instances for redaction.

What is Erase mode for?expand_more

Erase mode lets you click on any marked (red) box to remove it before applying. Use it to fix mistakes without clearing all redactions.

Why does the text search sometimes miss a match?expand_more

PDF text is stored as individual items that may not align with visible word boundaries. Searching for shorter substrings (e.g. a surname rather than a full name) improves match rates.
